Royal Gardens – Hosted

Content

The six-part documentary series “Royal Gardens” explores the world’s most majestic royal estates, as seen through their historical and botanical treasures. Hosted by renowned Professor Suzannah Lipscomb, each episode reveals the secrets, beauty, and cultural heritage of these legendary gardens—accompanied by historians and gardening experts on a breathtaking visual journey.

For thousands of years, gardens have been symbols of power, social status, and unique taste. Queens and kings, nobles, and entrepreneurs commissioned the most renowned architects of their time to shape nature according to their tastes and create artificial landscapes that served as a paradise for them and all visitors. Gardens were the setting for romantic encounters, lavish celebrations, devious conspiracies, and mysterious murders.

Whether they are English, French, or Renaissance gardens, their owners have spared no expense or effort to create unique masterpieces featuring mazes, ponds, fountains, or artificial streams—and, of course, hundreds of different plant species from all over the world. They surround castles, country estates, aristocratic villas, and manor houses, many of which are still owned by their original families.

This series takes us to the most beautiful gardens of all time and reveals untold stories and well-kept secrets. The journey takes us to England (Hampton Court Palace, Audley End House), Germany (Sanssouci), Spain (Real Jardín Botánico de Madrid), and Austria (Schönbrunn Palace, Schlosshof)—some of the most prestigious gardens ever created. We explore the diversity of flora and fauna, their design and architectural features, and this symbiosis of human creativity and magnificent nature.
