Story

The documentary “Earth Movements” (3sat/ORF, Simon & Schlosser Filmproduktion) was awarded the Carinthian Media Prize 2009 in the TV category. The award ceremony took place on 24 February 2009 at Schloss Maria Loretto in Klagenfurt, where director Gernot Stadler received the “Carinthian Media Lion”. In the statement of the jury for “Earth Movements” it is stated:

“Among the many great entries submitted, the jury – after a long discussion – came to an unparalleled submission, on the one hand, due to different production conditions, but on the other hand, truly outstanding in many respects. Gernot Stadler has accompanied Konrad Reßmann, the gravedigger from Ottmanach, with the camera for over a year, drawing a sensitive portrait of a man who is avoided by many villagers because of his profession. A touching and shocking film at the same time in its emotional and sensitive portrayal of a person in all its complexity and contradiction. A profound and at the same time respectful portrait of a man and his fellow human beings, from which we can learn much about our own dealings with life and death.”

The Carinthian Media Prize was awarded for the first time in 2004. At that time, the prize went to Gernot Stadler (director) and Heribert Senegacnik (camera) for the TV documentary “The Karawanken – Boarder in the South”.
